How to tell GGG hate minions
1.
0.1 - minions bodyblock each other and can't get through tight corridors or doorways. 0.2 - minions still bodyblock each other and constantly get stuck Zero progress made towards making them usable in cqc maps. 2. 0.1 - minions were in a healthy state where they were not overpowered when compared to other builds, especially monks; they had decent hp pool and damage output, but nothing gamebreaking 0.2 - minions nerfed to the ground to the point I do not understand why do I still bother. Getting one-shot by regular T15 boss AOEs, dying to normal packs. Damage output is laughable when compared to meta builds. 3. 0.1 - minion AI was already in a bad state, where they would not aggress enemies and sometimes, forcing you to constantly spam minion move command. They would randomly change targets without smart prioritization 0.2. - minion AI is just as bad as it was. Lack of aggression, always hanging behind the player despite mobs being in front. It's even worse with spectre minions, who can sometimes just randomly stand there and stare into oblivion. 4. Complete lack of communication from GGG regarding the spectre "wisp" state bug, where they just go into the "too far from player" form and refuse to come out unless you get back to them or walk so far away that they teleport to you. No information regarding the spirit bug, where sometimes your minions won't summon for no reason. Had this happen multiple times, e.g. my spectres would disable themselves after dying, forcing me to remove them back to 0 and then back to max count again Majority of spectres are just wet noodles and unusable. There was so much hype around them from GGG during trailers and such, but when in reality there is really one, maybe two spectres that can be used as main damage dealers other than cannon fodder / 7% damage boost from muster. And don't get me started on the arbitrary spirit requirements. Most bad spectres have extremely high costs for no real reason. Stuff like that should have been QAd. And don't get me started on some spectre's movement speed. Vast majority of them retain their actual MS so they can't even keep up with the player (for example forsaken miners can be fun, but they just waddle as if they had a missing leg or something). At this point I am truly wondering why am I still playing minions. Sitting in HO spamming alts for 4 hours straight is peak PoE gameplay. Thanks, Chris. I'll add on to this that GGG also nerfed presence radius massively so Ally buffs never even reach minions.

" You are completely right. Not only that, but the removal of "unintended feature" that increased spirit on sceptres with etchers which made a lot of sense. But hey, why are we complaining? We can now invest extra skillpoints and anoints into spirit and presence aoe! Sitting in HO spamming alts for 4 hours straight is peak PoE gameplay. Thanks, Chris. Played Minions for the first after not playing any in 0.1 and I have to say I'm a little disappointed. Given that the progression for minions is by necessity much more linear than for classes whose DPS mostly derives from their weapon, minions being this undertuned at the beginning felt weird (and can't be explained by the "too little MF" meme).
After the patches, the experience feels considerably better but as many people have pointed out, most spectres being useless feels a little disappointing and the ones that most people that spec into them have (Vaal Guards) are a bit of a FPS nightmare even on a high-end gaming system. I really appreciated the patch that gives you infinite tries at T0 pinnacles because without it, the Arbiter fight is all but impossible because my screen is constantly exploding so it's extremely tough to survive his phase 1 bomb attack. The gameplay loop itself (Lich with ES gear, Vaal guard bombers spectres and Skeleton Snipers for DPS) felt fine and having ES makes the frame drops okay to handle in tougher fights (pretty sure I'd get one-shot consistently if my main defensive layers were life + evasion/armor). I do get the sense that minions cap out a little too early at the high end. Even with upper-middle tier minion gear (around 40 div investment) at lvl 93, Simulacrum isn't really feasible to complete for my build, even at T0, because the minions simply get overwhelmed. Now I know Simulacrum is a bit overtuned currently, but even getting to Xesht isn't always guaranteed at the higher tiers, so I have to use the bullshit "blink your way to invisible xesht" workaround pretty consistently. I've played a lot again in 0.2 and I did enjoy my time mostly, but a lot of time was also wasted trying out different spectres with no tangible benefits and minions just capping out a little too early. I'm not asking to be lightning spear powerful, but at least lower tier simulacra should be within reach without having to start gearing specifically for it by trying to cram in more minion levels from defensive gear slots. |
