Loot pickup over corpses is a problem

So one of the vendors in act 3 sold me a fabled decent item. Great. But here's the catch: it's a witch's wand with CONTAGION skill on it (and contagion explodes a corpse to make a poison cloud).

All good, but if i want to pick up and item i HAVE to explode all the corpses in the vicinity, which is a HUGE problem in any situation. Key pickup option does NOT work. I almost lost my one and only DIVINE ORB to this BS. What makes it even more inexcusable is the fact that if i HOLD the left mouse button and hover over new corpses contagion is NOT cast.

To clarify: when trying to pick up an item i hover cursor exactly over it's nape plaque.
