Question, why did GGG not use previous system for POE2?
|
I understand the direction of pace and combat vision for POE2.
Why did GGG/Jon/Mark/Devs not take full advantage of core systems established from POE1? 1) Well 2) Atlas/Mapping/Juicing 3) Vendor interaction (Recipe, etc) Want to make it 1 portal system sure, OK! Dodge system is great. Graphics certainly improved. POE1 was not made overnight but it always lingers to me on why (in terms of efficiency) certain CORE POE1 systems did not get applied to POE2 and if there is even a thought of merging them to POE2? Is it some type of expiring IP issue? Slower and meaningful combat for POE2, yes OK again I get it but why all this inefficient systems put in POE2 when POE1 had already established such systems through the years and that has gone through changes as well which has established itself to this day, so why not use it? Unsure of whom as the 'play testers' are for the game but there is design issues going on. Whether its combat engagement, navigation or environment such as spacing, clipping, etc. Last bumped on Apr 16, 2025, 10:09:25 PM

From that interview the other day it sounds to me like the designers are very concerned about the reputation of POE as an impenetrable nightmare new players should never even try to play.
So it seems like they have wanted to try to make the game more appealing and accessible for newcomers. In their view, it seems as if they think that many of the systems, like vendor recipes, juicing, and so on, are a little too complex for new players to grasp, because... "if you do not know about it, you can't make use of it to become stronger." Where more experience POE1 players know there's like a dozen different skill gems, passives, early items you can use to get through Act 1 of POE1, new players basically just see a wall of skills and they have to read all of them, just as an example, and they don't know about any of the vendor recipes or things like that. It seems like they view Path of Exile as a competitive game, even though it is PvE. And to a degree it is, if you are heavily invested in trade... Thanks for the reply and read your message. I'm just trying to share feedback and experience here but I can disagree in a certain way as far as the RESPONSE FROM GGG was.
I think maybe they were talking about SKILL system from POE1 vs POE2? Maybe vendor recipe for new players (advantage to experienced plaers), but I think a vendor revamp on recipe page integrated (i.e chaos recipe, etc ) might help and still be placed in POE2, the reforge system for POE2 at this time is terrible IMO. SKILL gems wise, TBH I found the POE2 skill gem system more complicated and less streamline... there is no BRANCH or easy pathway to follow when it comes to SUPPORT gems, if for example I wanted SKILL1 to have a certain support but its not shown (BUT can be used) on my support gem create tab and then I have made support gems that was not even applicable to my Skill gem, this of course was from 0.1 experience. Otherwise, I think new players can learn the and grow in the game as well. I'm not sure how 'simple' GGG wants to try and make the game but I think there needs to have some level of trust at some point that players will learn things through the designed system in place, most importantly if those things are presented to 'new players' to begin with as an interaction/introduction to it? idk a quest? why not? |
