Do we need a dummy?

Gentlemen, what do you think — do we need a dummy?

For example, it could be bought and placed in your own hideout or in the guild hideout.
Ideally, it would also be customizable.
Sometimes I just want to understand what I’ve done to my passive tree and how to actually play with it 0_o

Maybe you could share your own method for testing your build, or maybe the developers will eventually add a dummy after all.

All the people joining your hideout just to take massive shit on your dummy for 100 mil dps just for you to never reach hehe
Personally speaking, absolutely.

Having a training dummy in the hideout would be a massive QOL addition that would help improve and finetune builds, not to mention solve countless of questions when it comes to whether a skill actually does what it says it does on paper.

For example Blood Mage's Gore Spike ascendancy node doesn't increase Critical Damage in the tooltip, but does work (after a staff member confirmed it). But that's the thing... instead of having to go to the forum, ask around and wait for confirmation (which may or may not come) - with a training dummy players could immediately find out by the damage numbers alone.

That's why I personally believe a training dummy is absolutely necessary.

Not a dummy, a miniboss arena in the hideouts. You have a door/portal in the hideout, you enter it and theres this npc boss you can test your damage on. The option to set it to passive or agressive, so you could even test out your defenses. You could make an end game questline to unlock it, people would have some goal. Like, meet and beat the npc in 3 unique maps etc. Would be cool. They could make money off it even by adding mtx for the boss to change its looks.

GGG gave us the closest thing to a dummy this last patch. You don't lose exp on death from Pinnacle bosses, and they have unlimited respawn attempts at tier 0. Not ideal, but there you go. I've been wanting a way to test dps for years. PoE 1 has the arena, but that is an utter joke for testing.

No way you're serious with this

I'm a bit undecided. It would be great to have that kind of feedback for our abilities but it sounds almost too helpful in 'optimizing the fun away'. It's an action-rpg so i think understanding our combat abilities should come from using them in combat.

If the idea could be worked into actual gameplay I'd fully support it.

I've thought about this before but for testing characters defenses instead of attacks. I figure some zone that has traps with known dmg values might work. (Eg, 10 tonne anvil falls on us always dealing 10k physically dmg.)

+1 for dummy in general

+1 especially during early access for bug hunting
pls
-add "Advanced Targeting System" to the options so we can disable accessibility-stuff
-fix skills w/o movement to NOT MOVE YOU when using Attack Without Moving i.e. Ice Strike
-rework: enemies instant-spells = math-game || very unfitting for meaningful combat cuz can't avoid with skill
thx <3
i would love to have training dummy so we can just test things in hideout instead of doing pinnacle boss or something for that matter
