Crossbow clunkiness feedback after 100+h on merc

I hear a lot about "crossbow is clunky". But I rarely hear something more than "fix reload speed/attk spd". Here are attack speed unrelated issues, addressing which would improve the feeling of crossbows:
Adding a support gems, that add a cooldown to an ammo type of skills causes them to be unavailable, if you switch to other ammo type and back, for a cooldown duration.
When you start reloading ammo type, you have to press shooting again to make weapon shot. Then you can hold it freely to shot continuosly. If you hold down the skill button from the beggining when reloading, it won't shoot.

There is a delay after you change ammo type (not a swap to another crossbow) preventing you from being able to shoot. Even thought ammo is already reloaded.
Sounds of reloading are all the same regardless of reloading time. It makes player look on their skill bar more, which is annoying.
My guestimate why it happens is that ammo is based/inherited on skills rather than having its own system. Reload time is "simply" skill cooldown. Sorry if I am on the nose with this statement. I just wanted to guestimate no matter if I am correct or not. Also looking for a gamedev job, sadly portfolio for now is a bit of a mockery.
