Why flat phys on weapon is better than flat elemental?
Hey,
I'm playing cold crit twister amazon and I'm trying to craft my own weapon. My in-game experience shows that flat phys dmg on weapon provides more dps than, for example, flat cold on a spear. pob also confirms that and that's why I'm super confused why does it work this way. Here are to pob links - the only difference is the spear. What I see here show me that your + flat cold damage have more DpS (140 > 135). 104 DpS on the Cold one is only the physical DpS. You can see Elemental & Total DpS a few line under.
Also, weapons can have +X% physical damage that can multiply flat physical damage. |

" Thanks for the answer, but it's not about tooltip dps but rather about pob calculation of my dmg. Hit DPS in pob is lower with cold spear. |

I don't use PoB, but when i had a choice betweeen 2 weapons with almost same DPS, I chose one with less attack speed and more flat damage.
Reason being that monster armor mitigates higher % of phys damage if I do smaller hits. So guessing your smaller phys hits just get countered by armor harder. It is impossible to give accurate answer without weapon prefixes and suffixes though. Maybe you have a jewel with phys damage in it or you invested into a tree branch with phys damage % in it. U make an attack with melee skill
Phys weapon: 10 phy - base 80% increased phy on weapon 10% increased melee dmg from tree Total dmg: (base + base*more%) + (base + base*more%)*inc% [10+(10*80%)] + (base + base*more%) * 10% = [10+8] + (base + base*more%) * 10% = 18 + 1,8 = 19,8 ELe weapon: 10 ele - base 80% increased elem dmg for attacks on weapon 10% increased melee dmg from tree Total dmg: (base + base*more%) + (base + base*more%)*inc% 10 + 10 * (80%+10%) = 10 + 9 = 19 more is 0% here The main difference between phy and ele weapon based, is that % increased phy on weapon works like more for base flat phy dmg coz is local indicator. % ele dmg for attacks on weapon is not. % ele dmg on weapon is additive and can increase ele dmg on offhand based skill like e.g. shield charge. Inc phy dmg on weapon will not increase dmg offhand based skill like e.g. shield charge. In first example with phy weapon u got only 10% total inc where total dmg is 19,8 and in sec example with ele weapon u got even 90% inc dmg and the total dmg is lower = 19 So inc phy on weapon works like "more", also inc attack speed works like "more".
