Unable to Level up or Complete Atlas in Standard as Game Is Too Hard

I took a long break from Path of Exile, and decided I'd give the game a go again. It didn't seem worth starting in the current league, so I resurrected a character from a prior one and decided to try to push to level 100 on it and complete the latest version of the Atlas (hey, it's been a while).

Unfortunately I'm finding it difficult to level up the character or complete maps on him due to the fun mechanic of instances crashing every five minutes with me being unceremoniously dumped to the log in screen with an empty inventory & empty XP bar waiting for me when I log back in again.

I am... somewhat confused how stability is quite this bad given how the recent focus has been on Path of Exile 2 - so Path of Exile 1, and in particular, Standard should be rock solid due to a lack of recent updates. Guys I have spent thousands of euros on this one game. The very least I expect in return for that kind of money is a stable experience. It doesn't need to be regularly updated; it doesn't need to be balanced; hell, it doesn't even need to be fun. But constant crashes are not acceptable - and instance crashes are, by definition, on your end - not mine.

Yeah this seems to only be in certain areas. I have not encountered it but it sounds quite bad. I noticed people only really talking about it since Dawn of the Hunt launched for POE2. There have been no major changes for POE1 as far as I am aware. So I guess it has something to do with server load?

I have not read any comment from them about it yet, but there is certainly a lot of people on the forum who are encountering it. I think Europe is one of the areas where it is occurring most.

You might want to make note of what skills you're using or what locations are giving you issue. I recently got one of my old 98s to 100 since it looks like I won't be playing that much longer.

For example, I found that venom gyre spam could be problematic. I also found that dx11 was pretty stuttery for me. I had been on vulkan but I was getting visual bugs after an update - thankfully swapping to dx12 improved things dramatically.

That might be worth trying if you are not already using it. Someone told me to go onto 12 when the game was crashing when entering the game and haven't had that or any other problems since.

Usual sollutions are: Checking if you have issues on Dx or Vulcan

It often helps if you just delete the config directory and let the game go into full reset. Maybe try that first as this methid is really quick.

Just search for the documents/my games/path of exile folder and delete it. You will need to reinstall your item filters but that's it.

The game is very stable - the only point where it crashes regularly is the chickens in kingsmarch... lol

None of that can possibly help.

The game client on my computer isn’t crashing: its settings are irrelevant.

The issue I have is that I get disconnected, and when I sign back in, my remaining map portals are gone and my inventory is empty. This is because the instance crashed on the server. The server-side software is a headless client; it doesn’t use graphics APIs such as Vulkan or DirectX.

Neither a regular disconnection nor the game client on my computer being unstable could result in data loss such as loot vanishing from my inventory. Only GGG’s servers can fail in that way. There is nothing for me to troubleshoot. The issue is not on my end.

It does seem that EU servers are having a lot of issues lately - not necessarily GGG's fault either, as they only hire the damn things. What exactly is causing the issues? Who knows. It is NOT bad game coding - if it was, then everyone would be affected equally.

I haven't had any major problems recently in AU regards server crashes. Come to Australia Sarno :)
