Weaknesses of Current Combo Gameplay (DEVS please read)

Just a quick feedback with combo gameplay and its current flaws:
I like comboing, in 0.1.0 when I wasnt aware how op solo spark I actually used spark as a catalyst rather than the main damage component. My combo gameplay was to use orb of storms first then tempest then spark or tempest orb of storms and spark. I used ice wall to block off rushing enemies and used flame wall to boost my damage. I really enjoyed this gameplay but it had some issues, it had a big problem of time consumed. Trying to cast all these together was like 2 seconds, 2 orb of storms(.85 seconds) tempest(.45 seconds) **optional flame wall(.45 seconds)** spark(.25 seconds) **optional frost wall for defense(.45 seconds)**. This is with high cast speed too, so if I had slower cast speed this combo happened slower. In my opinion spells like flame wall frost wall orb of lightning that combo with other abilities but doesnt do anything by themselves should have default cast speed of 200%. Frost wall has a huge cd limitation, orb of lightning has duration & cast limit & duration limitation, flame wall has cast limit and duration limitations as well. So its not like faster cast time on these reactionary abilities that isnt the main spell will break the game. Combos should come out fast and do more damage thanks to the speed of the abilities that supplement the combos. Currently you are just punishing the player by slowing them down by a lot if they want to combo while rewarding 1 button clickers, it makes no sense. In 0.2.0 I have started huntress and used parry. Early game, parry disengage absolutely sucks, even though I love parrying, because it takes you out of combat and has a considerable cast time. Why do these abilities have such a high cast time? They are already limited by other factors such as disengage having cd(which it should) and parry with its heavy stun bar. They dont do damage by themselves either, they wont break the game if they have super fast cast times but they will absolutely reward a player for having a fast reaction. People will use these abilities at pivotal moments to react out of a bad situation without needing to invest in cast time modifiers since it by default comes out fast. Huntress' supplementary abilities like whirlwind also has slow cast speed too, whirlwind already takes a commitment to give bigger stages you have to move forwards and risk getting hit while not really doing that much damage. You can even give it charges if you are worried it becoming too op by itself. A good combo that becomes obsolete because parry becomes weak but very good early is parry and fangs of frost. This combo feels really good because you don't break your own flow of attacks while you are defending and breaking enemy's flow of attack and comes out relatively fast. It feels fast because you can parry in between attack cooldowns so you only feel the parry cast time. One of the other missing pieces of cool combos is there are not enough defensive utility abilities. I need to be able to protect myself while I am trying to get my combo going, with mage frost wall kinda did that but sometimes I just needed to get the small enemies that swarm around the wall off of me. I think its cool that swarms like that happen but give me a tool to knock these f****ers off of me. Let me be able to react to them in a smart way. Frost nova was working for that during campaign but it fell off completely due to cast times, weak knockback and me going a lightning build. With huntress I use parry to be defensive but endgame parry sucks big time because even if I parry the incoming enemy I am completely vulnerable to other enemies around me, projectiles and aoe abilities. Its defensive utility drops off quite a lot since its only good vs one dude. All these together make it so one button builds have a faster cast time, better damage and more defense since it kills swarms way faster. Like current lightning spear ability, screen clears with 1 button while electrocuting and granting itself charges to keep going. Last bumped on Apr 10, 2025, 5:42:48 AM
