These patch notes were formatted in the funniest way possible
I am loving the mental whiplash the community is experiencing from the way the team has handled the patch notes for this update and I don't blame anyone for the reaction because after reading a novel length list of mostly nerfs I had to go back and watch the update stream again just to remember why I was excited about the game in the first place. Like, bravo, you have distilled the perfect essence of human recency bias. The team completely glossed over explaining all the things being added to the game that we were excited to dive into such as support gems and items and hard numbers on skill buffs and just dived into how they're nerfing the 3 overperforming builds (justifiably). With all the love in my heart this is why STEM majors should be forced to take humanities classes (psych 101 and public communication) to avoid pitfalls like this. Still excited for the update but woof

Lol, exactly this. Feels like they either somehow didn't realize, or that they're still adjusting numbers. Either way a weird look for them from the outside. Feels like they desperately need a project manager or something to keep them straight.

Great point. The patch notes are a kick to the gut and say very little about the fun stuff being added.

I think it's on purpose.
They might believe that 80% of people who watch the live stream don't look at the patch notes or are not able to comprehend all the data in those notes. Most people probably decide during the live stream if they are going to start playing again. I think they are well aware of the shit storm that's going to happen after publishing the notes, but it's only a certain subset of the playerbase. (only GGG knows how big that one might be) It's basically all PR. U could also tell the difference in tone from Ziggy's Q&A to Ghazzy and DMs Tavern Talk. Again, they had a very different audience in mind with each stream. |
