CPU Abnormal temp during load screen

As the title says, my CPU temps go ~20 degrees higher during load screens.

My temps are at 70-75 degrees during gameplay with high loads. During the loadscreen it hits the throttle temp of 95 degrees.

I am using Adaptive V-sync (Im assuming this rules out generating excessive frames during the loadscreen)

I am using a 9800X3D OC'd @ 5.5ghz with an arctic III liquid cooler.

Other specs if relevant;

- 5090 GPU
- PCIE 5 Storage
- 32GB 7200MT RAM

I do not have this issue in any other stress test, benchmark or game.


I'm aware that POE is a more CPU intensive game and that I should expect higher temps than most other games where the CPU is concerned, but this is specifically during load screens on POE2.

That seems abnormally high. While I don't own any new gen chip, I know the CPU shouldn't be near 80 C or above even when gaming with a good cooler like yours, let alone near t max where it begins to throttle.

In the QnA Jonathan did bring up some performance related issues and over voltage was mentioned I believe.

You could try disabling the overclock temporarily and double check that the cooler is seated properly and making good contact.

For a bit of background.. Each CPU has a different safe operating range, the 9800X3D does not throttle until 95degrees, my temps during general gameplay around 70-75 are perfectly fine for this CPU with a relatively heavy overclock. I am not concerned at all about that part. POE2 is quite a demanding game from the CPU side of things, so it's expected.

I already mentioned in the post, but I don't get this issue in any other game or workload. Only in POE2 load screens. The issue is not with my overclock, there's some sort of bug in POE2s load screen specifically.

There are many other testimonies of those with the same issue with a quick google search, so this is not a unique bug to me either.

Hard to say if Poe 2 is the root cause or not at this point. This is because Windows is known for having issues with their 24H2 update together which the combination of load screens and CPU loads.

Hopefully it gets resolved over time via updates.

Surely if this was a windows issue I would have similar issues across multiple apps, which I don't.

I play many different games, have a wide variation of relatively processor intensive workloads, and none of which cause my CPU to go anywhere near the temp limit.

upgraded cpu (motherboard, ram case etc..) for this game
came from an i5 8600..

got myself the 9800x3d now. not OC'd.
gaming temp 62-69 degree's (noctua nh-d15 g2 atm)

when taking any portal temp shoots up to as high as 94 degree's, cooler can handle it but this is not normal...

so same issue as OP

this is not caused by our pc but this game who's buggy at some points.
Love the game but this needs looked after plz.
