HELP RESET TO ACT 1 WITH MY LVL 31 MERCENARY

Help I don't know what happened i last night found out that you could play with another player by adding a controller so I thought it would be cool to play with my brother so after setting him on a new character a level one witch we were going to play Co-op it reset us back to the river bank and my character was on Act 2 and I thought I could just load back into my guy but it must have bugged or something and now mine's reset to act one as well and I'm stuck there because I can't get past the tutorial even though I'm a level 50 character it won't let me progress something to do with equipping a crossbow but I can't even get one or portal the town to get one really frustrated and saddened as I do not want to lose all the progress I made

Sounds like you're stuck in the newbie zone? just do what's asked by the tutorial and finish the zone. You can also disable the tutorial completely.
