epic games key not working

I started on the Xbox have character there. I have since moved onto the pc now its saying I do not have an early access key. I have used an Key in Epic games and linked my account and it still not allowing me access and says I need to purchase a key. Please help

Where did you buy the key from?

If you buy Path of Exile 2 from GGG directly, they offer an Epic Games Store key you can use to add the game to your Library - but it doesn't grant a license to play the game, as that was applied directly to your Path of Exile account when buying the supporter pack on GGG's website.

If you bought an Epic Games Store key from a less than reputable source such as some random online marketplace, it's likely the key you bought was one of those and what the key would do was misrepresented. If that's the case, file a chargeback and only buy from legitimate stores in future.

I was given it by my son.

I was given it by my son. The key was redeemed and i got to install the game though Epic. But when trying to log in through epic it then states i have no key.

Sounds like it's one of the keys I mentioned above. Ask him where he got it. Since it's your son, he likely either just misunderstood - or got scammed himself when trying to buy you a gift.

i will speak to him on that. But if i have an account already and have been playing on the Xbox why does it still say i have no key on here the main site?

The website was made back in the day when Path of Exile was exclusively available for Microsoft Windows, the Mac client wasn't yet a thing, and both 'hard mode' and Path of Exile 2 were just twinkles in Chris Wilson's eyes. The site has never been remade from scratch, so it's by-and-large a website for the PC version of the game with some Mac- and console-specific bits bolted on. Unfortunately, such players are somewhat second class citizens on the site.

I used to hope they'd roll out a new site (or at least heavily redesign the current one), but at this point I'm guessing if they don't start talking about it soon and do that for when Path of Exile 2 leaves Early Access, they'll likely never bother.

My son says it was actually in his early access folder on here.

He probably just got excited and hadn't read all the text properly.
