Private League - More Options
Hey Exiles,
I wanted to start a discussion about expanding Private Leagues to offer more customization options, particularly in ways that could make the game more rewarding or even overpowered, rather than just more difficult. Right now, most Private League modifiers focus on punishing mechanics: * Increased monster life/damage/speed * No stash, no vendors, or limited drops * Reduced player resistances and recovery These are great for challenge-focused groups, but I think there’s a huge opportunity to allow players to create more fun and rewarding experiences, especially since Private Leagues are a paid feature. What if Private Leagues Could Be More Sandbox? Imagine a system where players can customize their own experience, separate from the game’s main economy. Some ideas: High Loot Modifiers * 5000% increased loot drops * Exalted Orbs drop like Wisdom Scrolls * Divines, Mirrors, and Six-links are far more common * Smart loot (better item rolls & useful affixes appear more often) Power Fantasy Modes * 500% increased movement speed * Permanent Headhunter buffs on all players * Infinite flasks and instant cooldown resets * Spells and attacks have no mana costs * All items drop fully linked & six-mod rare Better Map Sustain & Atlas Progression * 500% map drop rate increase * Free atlas unlocks (all voidstones & favored map slots enabled) * No map mods – run anything, anywhere Custom League Mechanics * Enable/disable past leagues (e.g., Delirium everywhere, permanent Harvest, 200% Beyond spawn rate) * Customizable difficulty scaling (increase pack size, ramp up enemy spawns) * All league mechanics at once (Breach, Legion, Blight, Delirium, etc.) Alternative Economy Options * Chaos Orbs replace Scrolls of Wisdom as the common currency * Vendors sell Exalted/Divine Orbs for Alchemy Orbs * Crafting mods cost less * Better RNG crafting – deterministic modifiers for casual-friendly crafting Keep Private Leagues Separate from Standard One of the main reasons these rewarding options aren’t available might be the risk of flooding Standard with broken characters and loot. A simple solution would be to let Private League characters remain in the league indefinitely (or allow deletion after it ends) rather than forcing a migration to Standard. That way, it’s purely a sandbox for players to enjoy however they want. Wraeclast is your oyster. Why This Matters Private Leagues cost real money, and right now, they mostly serve hardcore challenge groups. But what about players who just want to experiment, have fun, and enjoy wild, over-the-top gameplay? Adding rewarding, creative, and power-enhancing modifiers would open up a whole new way to experience the game. What do you guys think? Would you be interested in more customizable and rewarding Private League options? Give your opinion on why this is a good or a bad idea. Last bumped on Jul 1, 2025, 10:56:33 AM

You're absolutely right! This would be a great addition to the current modifiers.
Although some of them would cause server instability, leading to more support calls and negative player feedback. But something like an increased quantity and rarity modifier just for currency would be an option. This would allow players to try things out and get used to the crafting system as a whole, which is extremely overwhelming for new players at the moment. I think the modifiers that would be added would have to be very carefully defined. Still, I think it's a good idea. Also to cover some "waiting time" for new leagues. Since the release of PoE2 the team seems to be very stressed. |

I think having access to the modifier increases and less intrusive effects at a lowered value could work. The permanent headhunter buff would only give you 1 rare modifier instead of all of them. "5000% increased loot drops" would instead be like 150%. 500% increased movement speed would be 30%. The goal should be to smooth the rough feeling the game can have at times and compensate the solo self found environment.
The ability to disable certain mechanics like certain map modifiers, certain rare monster modifiers like leaping(teleporting for headhunter) would be a great addition, but the game still needs to have some difficulty and it might be a good idea for solo runners to have the option to disable positive effects while they are in the map so they can actually tend things for the main branches. Really, the private leagues should serve as a fun booster, not a fun destroyer by the means of aggressive "cheating". It should also serve as a testing environment by getting the player ahead faster. Sort of like self couching. Talking about fun boosting, the ability to enable part league mechanics should be the main priority of the private leagues and that should be the first to come imo. It would be even better if you can enable the past balance of a league, for example harvest when crafting was extremely deterministic. Heck, get rid of the first and maybe even second segment of this comment and JUST give us this. The league will pay for itself and we may be too busy exploring past leagues that we won't care about anything else. Version locking the private leagues could also be an option, but I wonder if that would be harder to do given PoE is a multiplayer game. I usually do not read popular posts again after i made a comment on it, unless it's one of my own. I wish to have a Black robed Grim Reaper micro set in game one day, grant my wish, GGG

This is where the pay to win aspect comes in, if your paid for league is crazy rewarding because you dumped cash for it then it is pay to win.
It also makes people feel forced that it is the ONLY way to play (they are already bad enough with pigeon holing themselves with builds) Ancestral Bond. It's a thing that does stuff. -Vipermagi

Some of this stuff is not good imo.
The beauty of crafting is that you learn it over years not in 1 league. If you got to make 1000 divines per hour and just throwing them at items then you missed out on the journey of poe. Also the power fantasy stuff will ruin you. |

Technical limitations aren't being taken into consideration here:
The reason why hacks and cheats have traditionally been frowned upon, even in single player non-online games, is because they quite literally BREAK the game. They cause crashes and instability, as well as unpredictable corruptions. Now.....games are 100% online, with almost everything done server side as opposed to your personal rig. This makes those kinds of game-breaking elements even more critical to the ENTIRE game. As such, it simply will never happen. These ideas are under the assumption that a "private league" has no interaction with any other part of the game, and acts like old-school single player games that could be edited at will. This is just incorrect, due to the nature of modern gaming infrastructure. We have seen the effects of some of these things across PoE history already, and how they can negatively impact the game. Prior to the general loot cut in 3.14(?), if you touched alt after running a juiced map......your game would almost assuredly freeze and/or crash. Too much damage or speed has, in the past, caused full server crashes and overloads. There are functional reasons why things get nerfed that many players fail to even consider. I would just also remind you, that anything that makes a PL more rewarding than regular leagues will likely mean the char have to be voided (or at least locked to the PL for the duration of the league cycle) to prevent abuse, where people start PL and then transfer to get ahead on the economy. We saw plenty of recent examples of this abuse with the Lantern.

Absolutelly agree.
I always though in private league u could do whatever and all the groups choose to make it harder as a challenge... I just went to buy a league with "i really miss this old mechanic, maybe in private i can play" but nope:( So another idea: add all the customisation as allready mention, but also allow players to return some mechanics. Like oh: this player enjoyed scourge, give him scourge, this player enjoyed Tane? give him tane. And this one hates abyss, while also loving sentinels? fine. |
