Cannot get Ascendance points in Cruel difficulty

I currently have 4 total Ascendance points from Act 2 and Act 3 in Normal difficulty.
Now I am trying to get the points in Cruel difficulty but completing the quest ASCENT TO POWER in - Travel to Traitor's Passage does not complete the quest. Also, when I go directly to TRIAL OF THE SEKHEMAS and complete the trial, I don't get additional Ascendance points after completion. One thing I noticed is when I travel to TRIAL OF THE SEKHEMAS in Cruel difficulty, then re-open the waypoint, it says I am in Act 2 Normal. IS THIS A BUG?
