Why do Comet/Frostwall (Cast on X) eat so much CPU?

I'm playing a Cast on Minion Death+Comet, and my FPS could plummet from 165>45 real quick. And I noticed that my GPU Vram weren't being used more than 50%.

My PC is decent, but why would the game keep hurting my CPU to 100% when it should rely on GPU to render graphics? Specificly Comet/Frost Wall or Ice Magic in general.

Something that helped me, was disabling the sound effects in the config file, not turning them to 0 in game, but actually disabling them completely. I remembered having to do the same thing in POE1

Though that post is for POE1, it is exactly identical to POE2, just navigate to the POE2 subfolder in documents instead of POE1

You mean we have to play this game muted? Or it's just a technical stuff?
IIRC its just skill effects and stuff similar, the game processes and generates every single sound individually for some reason.

I, personally, have to play the game muted as i play it at work 90% of the time, so it didn't effect me much at all. It also helps if you have a skill that you repeatedly spam to become less annoying - tempest flurry for movement is a great example.

In short, No, you're not muting the whole game, just whatever subsets of sounds that you choose - they are listed in the config.

Even if you do enjoy the skill sounds, I'd enjoy having usable FPS much more

Damn. That sounds sad for me, but very helpful.

Personally I really need a *boom* SFX to feel "the weight" of my spells/attacks, but I'll consider it until GGG decide to optimize this poor game.
I agree that it sucks to have to resort to this kind of stuff, its been a problem ever since they "updated" the engine in POE1 to the one they are using now in both games.

Very very horrible optimization. I feel they could learn a lot from other game companies, Wube software (Factorio) is IMO the pinnacle of game engine optimization.

all games that use FMOD for sound behave this way. idk why so many games like to use it. it's terrible.
