Mana instantly drained when fighting bosses

As of the time of this message my mana is 1301, my lighting arrow cost 43 mana, orb of storms cost115,and my lighting rod cost32, but when I place my orbs of storms and use my lightning rods once during any boss fight, my mana drains instantly.
