trial of chaos

I am leveling my alt and had a buddy run my alt through ascendancy when my character was in the 20-30's lvls. since doing this, i have picked up a couple different inscribed ultimatums (including the actual quest item that i cannot drop that's stuck in my inventory) and haven't gotten the quest to go to the trial. as a result, i am unable to access trial of chaos on this alt. is this a bug or was this a workaround that shouldn't be allowed in the game?
