Unable to use simulacrum or breach key

Finally got enough splinters to make a simulacrum key. When I put it in the realm gate and hit traverse, it does not not open any portals.

Instead, it shows the messages

“Requires vault key”
“Activation canceled”

Restarting the game does not help.

I have previously used the realm gate to fight the breach boss (pre patch 0.1.1 though)

Edit: just got my second breach key. Now I can’t use this either - same error
