Not getting respawn option after death to DoTs - PC

Windows version, if I die from direct damage I get the expected option to revive at the last checkpoint. If I die to a DoT like burning or poison, no option pops up. I have to hit escape to bring up the game menu, and use the game menu to respawn. Often I don't respawn at the most recent checkpoint which is making boss fights difficult.
