Sacrificial heart quest bugged

I have had the sacrificial heart in my inventory for quite some time now not knowing what it was and now I do but when i go to the location to get the dagger and plant the heart the dagger is not there and i cant complete the quest.

I am in the exact same boat. Placed the heart down but there is no dagger and now I can no longer get the two passive points.
