What the hell do they do? Besides stand just out of range and piss me off?

I think they provide small auras that buff enemies or curse players. But im not really certain either.
I vaguely recall one of them attacking me with melee and it hit pretty hard, but that might have been in poe1. "Beidat honored the pact, though Mancy wouldn't take off Doryani’s prototype."
