Glowing Orb boon not working properly

I’ve experienced multiple times that when I’m doing the final boss in ToS that the boon doesn’t function properly. It killes me and then I instantly get the failed screen. This is mostly annoying and it makes it so the boon is not as usefull as it seems. I even once failed as my character just stood there locked.

Is this mechanic intentional or does it actually function bugged.
