Using uncut skill gems from stash

When i tried to unlock a skill by right clicking the uncut gem directly from the stash, although it did open the skill selection panel, when i selected the skill it just disapeared, it wasn't anywhere, not on the floor, in the inventory or neither back in the stash, i lost a lvl14 uncut skill gem.

That sucks. My peppering of questions is not intended to deny your having lost the skill gem; I am just hoping it might somehow still be there somewhere.

Do you have the skill gem tab? Alternatively, do you happen to have an affinity set for Skill gems that may have re-routed the new skill gem to a different tab?

Cutting skill and support gems works with the special skill gem tab, but can be unintuitive. I've always had the special tab, so haven't seen how the game handles cutting gems from stash without one.

Often when creating skill gems from the stash, the skill/support gem will appear back in your skill gem tab but show up in the "Level 1" group at the bottom. It is both unintuitive and can sometimes be hard to see.

In some cases, the game will let you click on "Engrave" but produce no skill gem (nor use the uncut gem). This can happen when you have a warning about the gem already being in use on your character or possibly(?) when not being usable for a selected skill. You'd expect the uncut gem to remain in that case, though it might be hard to tell if there were many of them.

I also remember a few times after launch where creating a skill gem would fail for some unknown reason or not appear in my tab, but might reappear in the tab after changing zones or logging the character. Or it would quietly fail with no gem and cut the gem successfully later.

Was the tab initially full, before right-clicking the uncut gem?

Hopefully it is still there somewhere. The game has reportedly had some problems with items managing to disappear when inventory is full. I don't know if similar issues may have been reported with full stash tabs.

Edit to ask for completeness: I am assuming as well that the skill wasn't socketed to your set of active skills.

Hello
Thank you for the reply. I did lost it somehow. But it's not a problem. I have so many uncut gems now that I wouldn't mind to lose some. Hehehe
But really appreciate the reply. Thanks
