Can someone help me with question about energy shield

my nodes that are supposed to increase my energy shield by a % are not increasing my energy shield at all is that a intentional mechanic or a bug. I am running eldritch battery which should give me more mana when i take dampening shield node or my jewel that increases maximum energy shield by 17% but none of those increase my mana or even if take eldritch battery off it does not increase energy shield. I would like someone to clarify if I am just being a idiot or is it bugged.
