Sekhema floor 4 Time Trial Gauntlet puzzle impossible to complete on couch co-op

My partner and I are trying to get our 4th ascendancy points and on the last floor there's a gauntlet puzzle where you need to use the time warp. We understand how that works, but in couch co-op AFAICT:

1. The time warp only works on one player at a time. We've tried all sorts of stuff to get it to work on both players, no dice.
2. Both players have to be basically on top of each other to pull a lever (I assume to prevent shenanigans)

So combined, it seems impossible. If I activate the time warp, we both have to run across a barrier to pull a lever, but only I warp back, and now neither of us can pull any levers because of #2. If only I run across, I can't pull the first lever. Has anyone figured out a way to do this that we are missing? Kind of a bummer because we sunk several hours on attempts to get this far.
