Does Recover % Mana on Kill work when minions do the killing?

I know that the character needs to do the kill in POE 1, but I have put 6% mana recovery on kill on my summoner and I think that I'm actually feeling the effect when my minions do the killing. Has anyone been able to test this?

Best way to test this is to remove all mana regeneration on passive tree/gear. Use a spell to waste all mana and wait for your minion to kill and see.

I've tested and the "Recover 1% of maximum mana on kill" Jewel modifier does nothing when your minions get kills. Presumably Gravebind would allow you to do this, but that's an entire gear slot. There is also a descrated modifier "Recover (2-3)% of your maximum Mana when an Enemy dies in your Presence" that Grip of Kulemak can get.
