I'm a big fan of D4 and i'm sad

I don't know if POE2 will kill Diablo 4 commercially, but as an individual I can say that it happened at least for me.

I installed D4 today and went to test my new video card and the new season.

I'm shocked, I knew POE2 was ahead and I thought D4 would need to work hard to catch up.

But the situation is much worse than I imagined.

As soon as I logged into the game I was shocked by the delay on the map covering the entire screen, I didn't care about before POE2, its so bad.

The second thing that impressed me was how clumsy the D4's roll/dash is, I didn't remember that feeling of being stunned when starting the dash and being stunned when finishing the dash existed.

The third thing that made me uninstall D4 forever is the impact of melee attacks plus the enemies being a sponge.
I remember that the endgame of D4 had this sponge feeling, but it didn't happen at the beginning of the game. POE2 makes me feel the spongeness of D4 at first 5 min of gameplay.

I swear when playing D4 I feel like I'm playing D3 or Titan Quest. The game is much more outdated than I imagined.

I'm sad, because I'm a big fan of the franchise, I have 7 barbarian skins and POE2 makes D4 mean nothing for me.

there's a ton for GGG to learn from D4

* Giving players everything they scream for even when its not good for the game is usually bad (unless the developer is simply wrong which is sometimes the case)

* removing consequences for mistakes/bad play = removing interesting choices or investment = bad (free respecs, penalties for bad play etc.)

* Making intricately designed systems and then letting players quickly devolve that system so that it no longer matters; is bad. (In D4 its the open world, in POE2 its the skill system at endgame turning into 1 button)

* letting players level through a game without any power spikes, power troughs or feeling of progression (to include level skips or boosts) is bad

* Making your game world feel less weighty and authentic or grounded is bad

* Making new leagues "helltide but purple" is bad

* borrowed power league rewards are bad

* dumbed down systems "so casuals can play" is bad (If you make a game thats deep and well loved the casuals will play it anyway using guides)

* shallow pigeon holed classes with no build depth is bad
Pandering to players who don't want consequences for their mistakes is a perfect description of what went fundamentally wrong with D3 and 4.
If they wanted mindless mobile game time waster gameplay they sure did make some perplexing choices and marketing statements for 6 fucking years.
