Enemy resistance reductions - order of operations and limitations?
The behavior of penetration is quite clear. The nodes and gem support descriptions clearly and explicitly state resistance cannot be driven below 0 with it. However, Exposure is not so clear.
Questions: 1) In what order are these effects applied? Penetration, then Exposure? Or the reverse? 2) What is the maximum Exposure amount from base Gem? What about adding Strip Away? Are there uniques to enhance? Passive nodes? 3) Are there other resistance related mechanics I’m not tracking right now? I’ve begun experimenting with Exposure on Lightning Arrow in T3 maps and I cannot detect a difference in clear or single target damage. Granted, without damage numbers, its all feel. I will continue to test, but hoping someone has some answers. Last bumped on Jan 20, 2025, 8:42:59 AM

To 1)
Penetration is applied last. So if you already get the enemies resistance to 0 or below 0 with Exposure and/or a curse, then penetration would have no effect. To 2) I don't know most. but there are passives on the tree that increase the effect if you apply exposure yourself. This does not apply to exposure from minions. To 3) For me Curses comes to mind. Then special items like Doryani's Prototype. It sets enemy lightning resistance equal to your and you stack - lightning resistance. Also there are mechanics to ignore enemy resistance or ignore >0 resistances. Last edited by Avaricta#4758 on Jan 20, 2025, 8:45:02 AM
