Question On Steam Keys

i recently bought my friend PoE2 and he tried to go and get a steam key and was told they where out (which is... really dumb for a digital game...) and i was wondering if there's anyway to see like a status for when they will be.. in stock again... if they even will. he refuses (and i cant blame em) to use Epic (cause it sucks) so it would really suck if i bought em EA for nothing.
