An idea for waypoint substainability
To start, I have always had trouble with map substainability due mainly to dieing to much.
I really don't understand why we need to maintain maps in this new structure where there isn't really a limit on where we go or what path we take. Isn't the game supposed to be about finding the citadels, fighting bosses and/or getting fat loot? Why throw waypoint substainability into it, especially for those of us still fighting to get to T15s and can only start at the citadels already found. How about if you die in the map the device keeps a -1 waystone in it for you. If you don't die and complete the map you get the waystone back. Advancement will still be based on waystone drops but in this way (unless you die a few times in a row) you will always have a map to do at least, with a chance of getting the tier or better than you need when doing it. The way I see it is that there is a working system that is balanced around the player not dying or dying very little.
So my question would be, why did you die much or what killed you? What steps did you take to prevent deaths? |

Then don't die.
To get map sustain, you need maps that are rolled right, blue or yellow, ones that aren't going to kill you. Atlas nodes with waystones quantity and tier. Irradiated, corrupted, or boss maps. There's some trial and error figuring out which maps you like. And which maps are going to cause you problems or fatigue. If I'm not familiar with a map, I find a duplicate map and run it on t1 and see what I think of it. Sandspit for instance is very easy, but it's small so I'm not likely to get many maps out of it but it's good for picking up a level. I'd rather run a t14 or t13 with good mods than a t15 with really hard mods. Save the hard waystones for when you have plenty and you just leveled, or save them for boss maps where you can find the boss, get several map drops, and the rest of the map is gravy. To get to t15s I typically ran one tier above quest, used the quest tier on towers. All atlas points into waystone quantity then waystone one tier higher. I also think I respeced maybe two or three times per level to try to find the right balance between damage and defenses |
