please give me your top tip so I don't make a silly character I'll regret

I've never played POE before - but lean towards magic users in these sorts of games as I have magic FOMO ( fear of missing out ) don't like it when there's some sort of ability I wish I had, like AoE

Don't worry - POE2 is built for noobs like you. Just keep picking the cookie-cutter 'recommended' option.

There a lot of tip video on youtube, but many forget to mention one important stuff:

yes, read everything. You will be miles ahead of other newbie if you just spend time read everything and understand how they works.

Now in POE2 there also in game explanation of various mechanics, hold ALT on item will allow you to hover on those underlined texts, which will give you further explanations.

For first char, rush to every non-critical damage node you can find, otherwise boss encounters will take too long until you eventually run out of flasks.

First 60 non-ascendancy passive points have little impact compared to PoE1. Weapon swap is more seamless compared to PoE1. You might as well wield totally different weapon types on your 1st and 2nd weapon slots. Interchange both depending on the situation.
