Unusual skill engraving issue

I'm going through a minor respec on my stormweaver and adding some lightning skills. I currently have frost bomb setup from the same tier and want to add orb of storms. I am using lvl 12 uncut skill gems, but when I click the engrave button on orb of storms, the uncut skill gem is consumed and I do not get the spell gem. I am down to only two or three uncut gems left and don't understand what is going on. Any help appreciated.

Just wanted to add, I tried engraving ball lightning as well, exact same thing happens.

I figured this out thanks to in game global chat, since I right clicked them in gem stash tab, the gems were showing up at the bottom of my gem tab under level 1 gems. Was expecting they would show up in my pack inventory :(.
