are penetrate resist nodes useful?
so i just notice as i try to learn about the game, and watch various videos, that it seems that nobody ever specs into the nodes like '5% lightning resist penetration' etc.
i realize that maybe content creators are playing the game in a very different way than i am playing. but still curious. at least for me, every once in a while i run into mobs that seem to be very resistant to lightning (that i use). so i take somne of these penetrate resist nodes to try to help. is it better just to take +10% lightning damage etc instead? thanks for any info. is just odd that it seems that nobody ever brings this up at all. " Builds that can access these nodes almost universally take them, so I'm not sure what build videos you are watching. Penetration resist is not as good as it was in PoE1, but it is still absurdly better than +increased damage% in cases where it applies (which is against mobs that you want more damage for). |

cool. ty for info. i will keep on doing what i am doing and use those nodes to try to help out against mobs that have resist.

as far as i can gather from other post. penetration apply after exposure and curse. and penetration is % base and don't work to negative.
e.g. if your exposure and curse push the enemy resistance to negative, penetration don't do anything. and even if it is still on positive, because exposure and curse already reduced the enemy resistance significantly, penetration become a diminishing return on it's performance gain. (e.g. if monster resistance after reduction is 10%, your 30% reduction only affect further 3% which isn't a lot) so no one bother to use penetration. at least that's what i understand | |
ty for the good info

As long as nodes that “ignore non-negative elemental resistances with hits” exist I don’t see a reason to invest in elemental penetration personally. Most builds will path right by them
