Running POE 2 on a handheld

I'm travelling soon and I wanted to play PoE on the side while I'm away from my PC. I bought a cheap ROG Ally and I'm setting it up to play POE and some games. I've downloaded the standalone client on it but it seems to only utilize keyboard + mouse or the WASD input.

Is it possible to play in controller mode for the standalone client or do I need to purchase it on Steam or add it on Steam as "other games" for it to work?

I've tried to look for threads online or videos but I can't seem to find any guides for this.
