Suggestion: Custom Transparency for Allied Effects to Improve Visibility
Hey Grinding Gear Games team & fellow exiles,
My friends and I have been having a blast playing Path of Exile 2 together, especially with our unique team composition: a Spark Sorcerer, an Infernalist Witch with minions, and my Lightning Bolt Ranger. We've found that our synergy leads to some incredible gameplay moments, but we've encountered a visibility issue that I think could be addressed with a quality of life (QoL) improvement. The Problem: When we're in the thick of battle, especially against groups or during intense boss fights, the ground and screen can become incredibly cluttered with allied effects. From the Sorcerer's sparks to the Witch's minions and their various spells, it's often difficult to see enemy projectiles, ground effects, or important environmental hazards because they're obscured by friendly graphics. The Suggestion: We propose the introduction of an option to adjust the transparency of allied effects on the ground and in the environment. Here's how it could work: Custom Transparency Slider: In the game settings, under "Graphics" or "UI", there could be a new slider or option called "Allied Effects Transparency". This would allow players to set the transparency level for all allied effects (spells, minions, totems, etc.) from fully opaque to nearly invisible. Default Setting: This option would default to 100% (fully visible), ensuring that no changes affect players unless they decide to adjust it themselves. Player Control: Players could adjust this to their preference. For instance, setting it to 20-30% might make allied effects barely visible, helping to highlight enemy threats without losing the visual feedback of our own abilities. Benefits: Improved Visibility: This would make it easier to spot enemy spells, ground effects, and other hazards that currently get lost in the chaos of friendly effects. Customization: Players can tailor their visual experience to match their playstyle or team composition without altering the core gameplay experience. Quality of Life: Especially in group play or for builds with lots of on-screen effects, this would significantly enhance the gameplay experience by reducing visual clutter. Example Use Case: Imagine in a fight where the Spark Sorcerer is casting, the Witch's minions are attacking, and my Ranger is dodging with arrows flying everywhere. With this feature, we could dial down the visual noise from our own team, making it easier to navigate enemy spells or avoid boss mechanics. I believe this could be a game-changer for group play and for builds that generate a lot of on-screen effects. What do you think, GGG? Could this be something to consider for future updates? Looking forward to your thoughts and hoping this suggestion resonates with others who've faced similar visibility issues. Exile Out! i can only agree with the demand.
With many bosses like the Viper Napuatzi, for example, the ground effects are not very useful for me as an Art. Ballista not visible. So either the boss effects come as the top layer or we need a way to hide the ally effects or make them transparent. Greetings and please keep up the good work. |

Agreed! I've been playing with my fiancée and her grenades and explosive rounds make it difficult to impossible to see what enemies and bosses are doing. I would be enjoying our playthrough of 0.3 far more if I wasn't being blinded by explosions, heat distortions, and smoke clouds All the Time now.
I fully support an opacity slider for other player visual effects, as well as a slider for audio caused by other players. |

Yes, but another thing really is there needs to be some kind of intentional "visual language" to enemy effects, something that makes it clear as day when you are looking at something an enemy cast vs something you, your allies, or a pet or spectre casts.
