Shrines are pointless

They have no measurable effect on the game. Some of them, like all drops being corrupted or all drops turning into 1 gold, mean you have to just stand there and wait for them to expire. 90% of the time I don't even find the shrine until the map is complete. All they are at this point is more annoying visual clutter.

User error.

You can click the shrine effect to turn it off.
There's no reason for them to exist other than tradition from D2. If they're going to keep them they should add an actual gameplay justification for the performance cost.

There is a justification for them...they add to the gameplay.

Yeah gold shrine IS dumb and "corruption" shrine is far from great due to the dropped items being junk due to lack of sockets and quality that tend to be pretty critical in PoE2.

Shine can use some adjustment, but to say that they have no measurable effect is flat out wrong.

For example, if you get the diamond shrine and then do a breach, you'll crash the instance. Very measurable effect there....
I've found most of them to be too view obstructing to be worth using.
My main issue is that they only last for a very short time. If they'd be active until you finish the map like the darkshrines in the PoE 1 labs, now that would be whole different thing, but as they are now, they're about as useless as a sandbox in the desert most of the time...

Agreed with the timing, it seems same as PoE time, but we have no movement abilities and much larger maps with greatly reduced mob density.
I don't mind the Swift (movement speed) and Thunderstorm shrines. The Recovery (constantly recover life and mana) shrine is also great when it just happens to be near a rare.

I do feel they are too short. So short that most of the time they don't do anything meaningful before they run out, so they are at best just "meh" stuff. I have never, ever, thought that "I wish I had some shrines", nor have I ever see a shrine and get excited about the power-up. That's how meh they are.

The corruption and convert-to-gold shrine puzzles me though. Any dev should already know that nobody wants loot to drop corrupted before enhancement, and essentially nobody wants gold instead of actual loot. So whoever designed these must have put them in deliberately as a penalty.

A penalty to catch players who just click and don't look at the effects.

I don't like these "aha gotcha" designs. :(

Give them time. It's the first time they introduced something like that.

One of the worse things added to the game, and honestly, they shouldn’t try to cope Diablo so much. Bring some originality instead of carbon copy of another game. Get rid of the shrines, and be original. If we wanted to play Diablo, we would. Instead some of us have dropped hundreds of dollars on game that is turns out to be more unoriginal the more you play. This game was nothing but a cash grab and it’ll be lost in history in a few months. Never will I play another GGG game, just money hungry copycats.
