Game crashes during maps and citadels auto-fail the maps/citadels

I was just running a citadel, got one of these freeze crashes where the character and everything in the map is frozen, but you can still interact with game menus. During these cases using "Exit to character selection" doesn't do anything and you have to either alt+F4 or exit to login screen.

Both options cause all the portals to disappear after you log back in even though the character hasn't died.

Please fix, it's extremely annoying
