Gem level vs Increased damage

Hey,

I want to know which is better, gem level or increased damage?

2 gem level > 50% damage increase?

Could anyone help?

It depends on the skill. For minions/spells gem levels are very impactful. For attacks gem levels tend to have lower effect.

Depends on how much +dmg% you already have.

General rule of thumb i follow is +1 level = 8-12% exponential increase in dmg.

so +2 levels is ~17-26% more damage.

Which sounds less than +50% added damage, but that +50% might be part of a pool that already has +500% added damage. And going from 500 -> 550 is really closer to a 10% increase than a 50%.

Also the +2 levels will increase mana costs, but that may not be an issue for your build.
