Copper Citadel boss fight: Sand storm continues after shield is down

I just died to the Copper Citadel boss during the sand storm phase because Asala (NPC) stopped her shield while the storm was still going on.

The same thing just happened to me. She ran away from me during the sandstorm to go melee strike the boss. I died instantly then she ran back and started the shield bubble again. Extremely frustrating considering that was the first and only copper citadel I have seen in over 300 hours of mapping.
