Feedback on waystones & waystone drops
The Problem (frustration Point): I progressed my atlas using the actual tier of waystone required for each quest (instead of jumping to the tier of waystone that would match my character level).. I was more focused on exploring.. ANYWAY, the frustration was that I would get tons of T1-T5 waystones all the way through T15. I only selected the Atlas nodes on the tree that gave more chance for waystones to drop and to drop at a higher level, while I progressed through the atlas tier quests. I might get 6-8 waystones on say a T12 map, and all of them would be T5 or less. So the TOTAL investment in waystone drops and dropping a tier higher felt like a waste because they were all dropping a level way lower than the maps I was running. So pretty much every tier past T5 I had an issue with not having the waystones I needed for the current quest AND I couldn't combine lower level maps at the reforging bench to make them.
The Solution (what I want): Given that players always think they want something but if they had it they would then not like it... THAT request would be to make it so that waystones never drop lower than (x-1) the base map you are running. Hence, if the map is T12, the waystones would drop T11+ ... if the map was irradiated and/or corrupted... they would still just drop T11+ (never lower than -1 the base level of the map). Why would I want x-1? because then at least I could have combined the waystones to get the base level map I would need. Why wouldn't we want this... well, people might want to run a lower level map after unlocking their atlas points or just because they want to run lower level maps. OR when you level a second character you might want to have all the tier of waystones to use on your alts to level them up... etc. The Actual Solution (what we need): So, what is a good idea as a point of discussion for the GGG devs to have... consider, instead of my "want" from above, adding a node to the atlas that does the above so the player has an option to run that way. Position the node -- that does the above -- X number of atlas points away from the starting point in the center, that would require you to get through T5 maps (since you can purchase up to T5 waystones from Doryani). This way, someone can choose if they want waystones to drop in this way or not. They would need to effectively invest in the node, sacrificing something else on the tree to do it. It would make progression of the atlas points smoother (but why is waystone progression through the atlas a challenge mechanic?) T1-5 introduces the player to the concept of atlas progression... and the other separate atlas trees (for delirium, ritual, bosses, etc) have the actual endgame challenge progression (which makes way more sense).
