A Plethora of Endgame Punishments

First, I've spent 220 hours in the game already. I love it. However, I have yet to get a character to level 90. If you are going to have such punishing mechanics for dying in the endgame, you need to first balance the monsters. Dying to on death effects is ALWAYS bad. Dying to one shots off screen is ALWAYS bad. Dying in one shot is ALMOST ALWAYS bad, and should be limited to well telegraphed or slow moving mechanics.

It feels like I am having my time disrespected when I lose so much on death. I lose all modifiers and fun activities of a map, and then I lose a big chunk of XP. Almost all of my deaths are things that happen so quickly I can't react. I can't see what kills me, and that two hours it took me to get all that XP is just wiped. This means I am having things that happen that don't feel like my fault, and there is nothing I could have done better. I don't learn anything from it, besides just run less modifiers on the map and make them more boring/less rewarding.

I think you need to limit what you are taking away from me. Even in the most famous punishing game of all time (Dark Souls/Elden Ring) you still have a chance to get back all of your souls after you die. You can't die twice, or else they are gone for good. THAT is how you do punishments. It is already bad enough that the modifiers go away and you lose your boss, breach, etc. But to take all of the time away on top of that is masochistic.

I also want to mention that the Trial of Chaos and Sekemahs locking up my 3rd and 4th ascendancy is the least fun thing in the game. As a monk melee, it was an RNG roll to get my huge milestones. I already had a forum post about this, but thought I would mention it again here. I shouldn't have to wait until level 85/89 to get my 3rd/4th ascendancy.

That's why player numbers are sinking , Titanic style.

People they made game (supposedly) for , are already gone.

Why would anyone chose to play this over D4 or Last Epoch is beyond me...
