Some bugs / features / mechanics i think should be looked at. Chayula Monk stuff.
I'm a 93 Chayula monk and i've been testing out different builds, with different items to try to find a way to play the game without being a "worse invoker", maybe a worse monk but i'd like to hone in onto the chaos damage.
I'm burning through my divines to try out very dumb things right now. D: Mana leech from Physical Damage for ES: 1: Leech resistance, why? So i know that monsters have "leech resistance" and i for the life of me do not understand why this is even a thing. Gaining leech from any source is not sought after, nor is it easy to come by since you need to sacrifice some pretty significant stats already - mainly resistances or actual attributes as an example. Even worse for weapons since it competes against crit damage, crit chance, attack speed on top of the attributes. 2: Mana leech only coming from physical damage. I do not understand why monks have such a heavy emphasis on elemental damage. I would understand if there was a combo or something that we could use as Chayula where we wouldn't have to rely on elemental damage. Then we could dip into poison damage with the extra chaos damage and go for extra curses, especially now since Hand of Chayula was shadownerfed. Before you could put multiple curses on enemies, not anymore. There is no documentation that i could find where this was changed and i do have video proof in which i used to put multiple curses on bosses. I have a _very_ strong barrier quarterstaff with leech and i've been trying to figure out how much would i need it to be able to sustain me even a little and even with double 8% in rings and around 100% from passives - it's still trickling in. I've gotten upto a 80% mana leech with bell and the most i've seen it give back is around 200. 200 / 4000 ES from an ability that deals 2500-4500 phys + the shockwave is laughable. I even tried it on some bosses where i burned all their armor and nothing changed - it just doesn't work. So this issue comes from 2, arguably more, but 2 main parts: 1: Monks have a heavy emphasis on elemental damage which has 0 synergy with chayula. 2: The stat scales so awfully that it's dead, completely dead. Unless i'm missing something and someone can make it work, please let me know. I'd be very interested. 2:The Strength of elemental heralds / the uselessness of other herald, mainly plague. This comes back to the part where Chayula HAS to play like a dollarstore Invoker if you want to stick with the "monk" fantasy. Herald of Plague is laughable as we don't have any proper physical damage to actually pop a huge poison that would spread - meaning not going herald a thunder + ice will nerf your clear so significantly that mapping becomes almost unbearable. Quick note here: I do realize that there's multiple classes missing -- mainly what i'm keeping my eye on is Shadow & Huntress -- which could allow monks to go for a more physical/poison/bleed damage type within other weapons and not rely on the elemental quarterstaff shenanigans. I will also try a bow setup with the chaos damage quiver at some point. Also passives only buff elemental heralds? What? Why? 3: Lack of spirit / the absolute gimping with Darkness outside of the trial niche. There could be multiple very fun things we could try on Chayula like multiple curse Hand of Chayula or even blasphemy. But the cost of opportunity and lack of spirit which MAKES us take a neck + chest that gives spirit is insanely frustrating. Any time i have an idea i want to try i would have to sacrifice a significant portion of defense or offense only to find out that the thing i'm trying is just objectively worse. Using something like Darkness not only uses your very "strong" ascendancy points, it also completely removes any and all defense layers you get from 30 spirit. Wind dancer & Grim Feast? Overly powerful, yes but i don't see how even in a nerfed state - the combo of those 2 would EVER lose to darkness. Heralds? Again, ever if nerfed i don't think you'd want to sacrifice these. Then let's go into other things like blasphemy which, to me, seems to fit chayula so well but, again, the cost is INSANE and id argue STILL better than darkness. Now i'm not saying that allow us to use Darkness as spirit but... that would be kinda cool? Add a meta mechanic into it? Right now i'm just playing a scuffed version of another ascendancy and i'm really hoping that's not going to be the trend going forward. I'm doing "quite" fine with my current setup aside from getting 1 shot. I even went fully into chaos damage and i'm using Ming extra chaos damage ring which did wonder to my dps and even with the defense penalty, i'm still running 3.3-3.5k ES + 70-85% Evasion with wind dancer. But at the same time, i'm kind of stuck. I have no plan in even trying arbiter as i'm fully aware how punishing that boss is and i cannot for the life of me find a damn copper citadel even after 350 hours. Anyhow, wall of text is a wall of text. I realize these are very niche things and there's many things that need to be fixed / tweaked / changed and interated on - but this is my own quick feedback from the viewpoint of one the least player, if not the least player, ascendancy in the game. Only a level 66 Acolyte here but I've found the amount of Mana leech increases if the attack does 0 elemental damage. Using the support to remove all elemental damage completely ruins the damage but weirdly increases the leech.
I'm up to 75% leech so far and experiencing similar issues. Everything would be improved if they removed leech resistance or better yet let all attacks leech instead of just physical. It's absurd to give an ascendency instant mana leech and then make it so the majority of their attacks can't benefit from it. At the minimum the small passive before it should give 1% mana leech for attacks. |

I feel like leech being balanced for physical damage only is because elemental damage gets ailments inherently. Also as far as i know, most skills dont convert 100% of damage either. It is odd to me that there is an elemental ascendancy that focuses on leech.
I think this is probably an oversight or there is some item or stat that they have plans for that isn't in the game already. Its also possible its a dagger thing, and we don't have daggers yet. I'm not sure though. If there was elemental leech in general on the tree it would be way too broken for every build on the right side of the tree to solve mana recovery. Like this guy said, in the ascendancy would be nice, it seems the ascendancy is based on chaos damage though so maybe it needs to just be attack leech not elemental leech. |

If you actually try to mana leech you'll find a skill that converts 60% of it's damage to elemental usually gives you 0 mana. Literally nothing. If we actually got to leech 40% it would feel a lot better and make more sense.
There is no way to know the enemy leech resistance works so we are shooting in the dark for how much mana leech is needed. I have every gem slot possible for my level filled with increased mana leech and every mana leech passive possible and I still leech near 0 on most mobs later on with basic skills. |
