Playing "Path of Trading" is cancer!
I finished the campaign on one of my characters five days ago, and I still haven't started mapping simply because the thought of engaging with trading drains me.
Since drops are mostly garbage and unreliable for finding the gear you need, and crafting is RNG based with no guarantees (and no materials), the "best" way to get the necessary upgrades—like maxing resistances to be map-ready—is trading. But trading in Path of Exile is an exhausting, time-consuming nightmare. The website is clunky, and finding what you need is a hassle. You have to fine-tune various stat filters endlessly until you finally locate something affordable. Then, in my experience, there's about a 70% chance the seller won’t even respond. So, back to adjusting filters and searching again. When you need to upgrade almost every slot because the campaign doesn’t properly prepare you for maps, this entire process can take hours. Why even have trading if it's not fun or rewarding, but only a miserable experience? If you’re going to keep the current trading system, two things must be improved: 1. Streamline the Trade Website Example: If you select "Belts," the filter should only show stats that belts can actually have. How is a new player supposed to know that belts can’t roll "+X to skill level" or "Increased Cast Speed"? The website has hundreds of possible improvements. It feels like no one at GGG has ever put themselves in a new player’s shoes to experience how frustrating the website is to engage with. 2. Remove the Need for player 2 player Interaction in Trading Whispering dozens of people without getting a response is miserable for buyers. Being spammed with whispers while trying to play the game is miserable for sellers. The system is bad from whichever way you look at it! Just let us automatically retrieve items from a new "Trader NPC," or allow buyers to teleport to the seller’s hideout and pick up the item from their stash. Anything is better than this archaic mess. Right now, trading is the only deterministic way to get upgrades, yet the experience feels deliberately designed to be as frustrating as possible. Do you even want your game to be successful? Because sometimes, I genuinely wonder... Just fix it already. Last edited by schalander#6765 on Jan 9, 2025, 9:26:41 AM Last bumped on Jan 9, 2025, 4:00:52 PM

I think u're gatekeeping urself here. I'm not saying trading isn't tedious, but its not necessary to start mapping at all.
In PoE2 u actually are not supposed to have maxed elemental resistances in T1 maps. That's obviously hard to understand as a PoE1 player, but I wasn't res capped on my Ranger until T10 maps and I barely died. Now that might be different on a Warrior, but I think it's not that much worse. U'll still find upgrades in maps that let u progress further and if u hit a brick wall at some point, it's much easier to find specific pieces to upgrade later. Sure the crafting isn't great and very rng, but if u make use of ur currency (although its cheaper to buy stuff) u might get great pieces here and there. At least u don't have to interact with trade, just know ur limits and don't spend all of it on hopeless items. Wait for a very good 3 stat regaled piece before using Exalts ect. Anyway, good luck in maps hopefully :) |

" Sorry but that is horrible advice. Path of Exile 2's economy and trading system are so backwards that it is infinitely better to spend 10ex to be T15 ready than it is to slowly progress wasting hundreds of exalteds and using your divines for re-rolls. There is no chance that GGG designed POE2 to be a 'slow grind' kind of game and then allowed free trade whereby Exalted Orbs (which drop every 30 seconds) to be the main form of currency and not expect people to just completely annihilate the maps. The trading system is a joke and everything the OP said is correct, if this isn't the 'correct' way to play, then remove the trade system entirely. Why would you support having the system in and half baking it? Last edited by Naraldeth#4682 on Jan 9, 2025, 10:15:46 AM

" That kind of depends on the character no? Some are absolutely more gear dependent, and not being capped is a good way to be far more prone to being one-shot. Like it or not, trading, and hoping someone will stop playing long enough to sell you the next item, is a key part of the game and it's largely a miserable experience for everyone. |

I never said trading is in a good spot. He said he's avoiding maps because he thinks he can't do them without trading. That's a mental problem more than anything.
It's the same in PoE1. Some people honestly believe u can't play maps in PoE1 without trading for upgrades, which is just wrong. If he has fun playing the game, but has anxiety because he feels the need to trade, my advice is to avoid trading. He's also not saying he has no time to do it, because clearly he has, because he already leveled five chars. " Yep, that's why I stated it might be different on a Warrior or any melee build. Still the damage in low Tier maps is not balanced around maxed resistances, even Kripp said the same in one of his videos. But hey, if he just wants to vent about trading, go for it. There's only 1000 other threats about it. |

It is almost Path of RMT now.
The whole system is designed in a way that you have to trade. |

what you are seeing is a terrible mobile gacha game. the gacha is in the form of "drops" and "crafting". thats just it.

just dont trade then.
dont trade and if you get to a point where you feel like you need stuff the game isnt providing you come and make a feedback post about those specific things and make the case for the game being changed to give them to you. people dont rly think about the fact theyre saying "trade is by far the easiest way to get gear, thats why i use it, and i dont understand why you dont make it even easier" they dont make it easier because its already the easiest way to get gear. if you dont like trading but you like playing then play the game guys. the devs intend you to be able to just play and succeed, if thats really not happening they will change the game to make it work. just make the case for it not currently working. I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

SSF anyone?
A lot of people like it. If you don’t, that’s cool. You got your own modes and everything, go play that. Thanks |
