Map Atlas Impass is annoying

This is just one of the many instances of this happening.
Am I understanding it correctly, that Atlas is actually like a grid?
And separate grids can't be connected or something?

It feels so bad to stumble onto something like this, isn't it supposed to go forever? Like Delve? Literally nothing connected and I have to chose a different route
