Controlled Metamorphosis crash and close bug

I have a couple talents enabled by the gem, and when i try to open my passive tree my game closes, my friend has the same gem and doesnt have this problem, tried equipping a new one and had the same issue, the only way i can open and switch my passive tree or anything is if i open with the staff set which is my second set

if you take the gem off and passive tree points it fixes, but once you reopen the game the game just goes back into crashing and closing
