Accidentally Sold God-Tier Scepter Using X on Controller

Hi, I am a new player and was excited a few days ago when I rolled a God tier scepter all on my own for my ~70 infernalist summoner witch (+4 minion skills, +72% spirit double buff), and suddenly realized I was getting 1 shot going into maps tonight. Then I realized that my Scepter was gone, switched out for some garbage scepter. Then I realized I must have somehow sold it or DE'd it without realizing it? How can it be so easy to make such a ridiculous mistake? I am using XBOX controller on PC, it's so simple to press "X" and swap pieces. I'm pissed at myself, but this feels like there's not enough safety net around this risk. When you are in the vendor for SELL or DE, you should NOT be allowed to EQUIP gear and switch it with the quick hit of a button. This makes it FAR too easy to simply press the wrong button without realizing and then selling the wrong item, and you paying it no mind until you realize it potentially after restarting the game and losing access to your buyback (not possible with DE, obviously). I'm really freaking annoyed I lost my best piece across all my toons to this event.. its like easily 100+ exalted orbs I lost without even realizing it. It literally could have happened to any piece EXCEPT this one, and I could have replaced it easily with exalted orb trade gear... Anyways... I feel better after sharing this feedback.

The problem comes down to every item looking exactly like every other item of the same type...

Please consider changing this option to make it NOT POSSIBLE to EQUIP during sell/DE with vendor
OR
Make it possible to LOCK items so that they cannot be swapped from equipment slot unless UNLOCKED to prevent this from happening
OR
allow me to TAG an item as UNSELLABLE or CANNOT DE (my friend says D4 has this...)

Thank you for your attention and consideration.

I don't want any forced annoyance but item locks are a great idea

+1.

I accidently sold my gloves yesterday. Got them back, luckily.
I still do not know how this happened.
