Spirit is unintuitive for new players
I'm unable to understand the concept of how spirit works in this game. On what planet does +30 spirit not equal +30 spirit? Why does equipping a piece gear that says +47 spirit not give +47 spirit? There's no reason a new player should be required to look up a guide and get a PhD in quantum physics to understand the convoluted language of a game that has otherwise easily understandable mechanics. Is it some type of unexplained ratio or a percentage (which doesn't make sense anyway) that causes +30 spirit to not actually be +30 spirit? Why doesn't it just say this in the first place? Does +30 spirit actually just increase my spirit by 30%? If so, why doesn't it just say this? I've been trying to equip Herald of Ice on my monk, and the obstacle I'm facing is very clear. It requires me to have +30 spirit. After around 2 hours of accomplishing nothing and getting nowhere, I've decided to ask Reddit because this process most likely exists for 100% of new players. It seems the main issue I'm facing is the fact I can read. Whatever it says means something completely different than what it actually does, which causes my ability to read to be a hindrance rather than a boon. I've chosen the Ascendancy Lead me Through Grace which states the following. Gain 1 spirit for every 6 energy shield on body armor. Gain 1 spirit for every 15 evasion rating on body armor. After equipping body armor with 200 evasion rating, this has now given me 2 spirit. Now I'm not a mathematician, but that doesn't make any god damn sense. Instead of asking for a convoluted explanation or for someone to help me, I'm actually just complaining about the fact new players are being punished for having basic reading comprehension and then adjusting accordingly based on what the game tells them. There's no reason the description should be juxtaposed from what it actually does. Last bumped on Jan 9, 2025, 4:49:36 AM

What are you going on about.
1800 evasion on a chest would be 120 spirit. 30 on an amulet is 30. A scepter with 50% is adding it to the base spirit on the item itself it’s pretty straightforward. |

" You seem to have missed the third line of the ascendancy passive: Cannot gain Spirit from Equipment If a piece of gear says +30 Spirit or +47 Spirit, and you have "Lead me through Grace" allocated, it will instead grant +0 Spirit. |

I've got no idea what you're on about. Spirit seems extremely intuitive for new players overall, as it's not a particularly complex concept. You have X amount, that you can allocate to passive skills, without going over your budget.
I suspect there's an X factor here you're treating as assumed and overlooking somewhere in this, and failing to communicate this. I assume you're playing an Invoker Monk (from your description of the ascendancy). Some factors that may be causing this behavior; 1: You have support gems on a skill which increases its spirit cost. This is easy to overlook, most supports for passives increase their spirit cost (either by a percentage, or by a flat value, often 10 or 15). This could cause you to be unable to activate the desired passive. 2: You ended up in spirit debt. It is possible to end up with negative spirit, at which point the game will disable your skills, and may cause some oddities in re-enabling them. This could have happened if you where running near (or at) your spirit limits due to items, THEN got your ascendancy, disabling the spirit from your gear, but failing to properly disable your passives. Attempt to unsocket your spirit gems, then resocket them one at a time and reactivate them. 3: You're misinterpreting how much evasion is on your body armor. An item link or screen shot of it could help provide additional clarity. Similarly the sum total of what spirit gems (and their supports) you're trying to run would also help. Lastly to reiterate my initial point, I've literally never had a new player have any issues with spirit. So I think this might be a more isolated event unrelated, though I wouldn't dismiss the possibility of some sort of mild bug causing unintended effects (it is an EA afterall, I've had a few deliriums brick for no good reason the past few days). |
