Trade site note corresponding to in game play

I sign in to the trade site but when i try to whisper another player about an item it says i must be in game to use this function. This is the only thing stopping trade for me. I am in the correct account as well. Its almost like the site and game arent communicating. Help would be greatly appreciated.
