Map froze and I had to restart

While running a breach and game seemed to time out, as the ping just kept going up since the server wasnt refreshing. I could still open my inventory and menu's but could not click anything. Tried to go back to character select and login but neither worked. Ended up having to alt-f4 and when I loaded back in it counted as a death and I lost a lot of xp and loot.
