Poe2 causes full PC freeze/lockup

The game will unexpectedly cause my entire PC to freeze up and non responsive and forces me to hard shutdown. Most noticeably after the character selection screen. The game ran fine for 12ish hours on a single character but out of nowhere after I made 2 more new characters to test out I started running into this issue. Sometimes happens when changing maps/locations throughout the Acts campaign. After freeze up and a hard shutdown the game will be low res and laggy until I reset my pc from taskbar and boot it up again. This is the only performance problem I've experienced so far with the game. There is no consistent timing to it, sometimes I'll pick a character, play for an hour or two and then it it'll happen. Sometimes it happens the first time loading after character selection. If it happens during map/location change it's even more inconsistent and random.
